Halifax businesswoman Barb Stegemann is launching a new perfume with a zesty twist; its primary ingredient is purchased directly from women in wartorn Afghanistan. Called 7 Virtues: Afghanistan Orange Blossom Eau de Parfum,the fragrance utilizes orange blossom oil for a good cause.

Stegemann buys orange-blossom oil directly from women in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. That allows them to earn a decent living without being beholden to the Taliban and it allows Stegemann to produce what one fashion magazine called an “absolutely glorious” scent.

An entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker, Stegemann plans to launch the new perfume on International Women's Day on March 8th. A launch event is being held in Toronto on March 6th and another in Halifax on March 12th.
