Former 19 year old mayor gets his recount in Paradise N.L.

Being Canada's youngest mayor for 36 hours and losing the title after a recount and name drawing didn't sit well with Kurtis Coombs. After the teenager and his mother made their request to the Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme court, a judge has ordered a second recount of municipal election results for the city of Paradise Newfoundland.

On September 29th Coombs was declared mayor of Paradise after the municipal election results showed he had won by 3 votes. He was then stripped of his tiitle two days later after a recount revealed that he and incumbent Ralph Wiseman were in a dead tie. As prescrbed by law, the winner's name was drawn out of a hat (recycling bin) and Wiseman had won the draw.

Coombs was not satisfied by the results which he claims ignore Paradise residents' votes for change in their city.

"It's not something I'm letting up on," he said [after the first recount]. "Many residents are absolutely furious. ... There's a serious problem there: You can't just pick a name out of a bucket and hope for the best for the next four years."

The judge declared that a recount was a reasonable request and it will occur October 13th. Some have argued that Coombs deserves a second chance for change while critics are quick to comment on his relative lack of experience and his reliance on his mother when dealing with the matter.
