Dave Carroll makes his debut on The View
Don’t call Dave Carroll a flash in the pan just yet. Just days after wrapping his third and final YouTube video instalment in his United Airlines trilogy recounting his now famous broken guitar story, Carroll got an extraordinary offer from New York. Carroll accepted and appeared on ABC's The View Thursday January 14th along with Rachel Weisz, star of The Lovely Bones.
Last week a producer from ABC called him to ask if he could join the ladies on the couch to tell his tale about a broken guitar and an uncaring airline. In an interview with The Daily Press, the first thing that Carroll did when he heard the news was contact his family.
"I called my mom before I called them back, because it's her favourite show," he said. "I can't tell you what she said, but there was silence followed by an expletive. It just seems to be carrying on," Carroll said of the attention that comes from his YouTube videos. "They haven't heard of this before, so it's all new to them.”
Carroll is to the point when he explains how his videos have helped his career. He says that gaining more exposure from The View’s audience, which is largely female, will expose his music to new ears. The show is watched by more than one million people and Carroll’s appearance should boost sales of his back catalogue including his Halifax based band Sons Of Maxwell.
Since the first instalment of the trilogy, the YouTube video ‘United Breaks Guitars’ has amassed over 7 million hits. It is now used by United Airlines for customer service training. Carroll himself has also moonlighted as a consumer advocate appearing at conferences and other corporate events using his story and music as a lesson for large companies.
