The Position
Reporting to the EVP Application Solutions, the position is responsible for the ongoing development, enhancement, execution and implementation of existing and new products within the division. Leading a large team of systems developers, quality assurance officers and product & technical analysts, the Vice President, Product Development will establish product direction, ensuring that the company remains at the forefront of customer needs.
Specific Duties & Accountabilities include:
• Partnering with the VP, Business Development to ensure a robust short and long term strategic roadmap for each product line.
• Collaborating with Partners to ensure that agreed upon deliverable dates and release schedules are consistently adhered to. This includes the commercialization of each product to ensure that all aspects of the release have been taken into consideration.
• Contributing to the expansion and development of new product lines in response to changing customer needs.
• Contributing to the Senior Executive team with overall business planning
• Adopting best practice methodologies relating to product development and implementation.
• Providing leadership with respect to career growth, coaching and training, along with succession planning for ongoing team continuity.
• Developing and implementing a flexible resourcing model to take advantage of outsourcing opportunities where appropriate.
• Ensuring that all departments implement effective metrics, controls and reporting to measure the progress and productivity of each team at all times.
• Confirming product progression for major lines, which includes addressing and resolving any product progression changes proposed.
• Maintaining budgetary oversight of product development costs and the associated reporting.
• Acting as the senior escalation point for all issues relating to products.
The Candidate
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a university degree in computer science, which should be accompanied by at least 10 years relevant experience in software development. Previous exposure to servicing the financial services industry is considered a distinct asset.
In fulfilling the role, the Vice President, Product Development will have strong presentation skills along with a verifiable record of success in managing all aspects of large scale systems projects and initiatives. In addition to overseeing the development of a large professional team, the successful candidate will effectively interact with other business units and executive management in creating and implementing strategic plans while balancing day-to-day business demands.
This role is best suited to a self-starting and hands-on leader who is organized, analytical and is the “consummate team player”. Further, it is imperative that this individual accepts personal accountability for his or her success, but is capable of working with and through others’ cooperation. Accordingly, this individual must be adaptable, mature, collaborative, and exude high integrity and credibility.
